Toystereo: Live Review of Chelsea Wolfe at Old Blue Last / London UK
I was first exposed to Chelsea Wolfe through her most recent album, Apokalypsis, and haunting, driving and addictive as it was, readily snapped up tickets to her show in the loveable Old Blue Last at the first opportunity.
Given how powerful her recorded work is, I was expecting a lot - and wasn’t disappointed. The band’s sound completely submerged the cosy space, and any worries that I might’ve had that the vocal distortion used in her work might not work so well live, or might feel overly prepared and distance her from the crowd was instantly abated - Chelsea definitely made her presence felt.
Their European tour’s been relatively short, so they’re nearly finished, but watch out for their return and beg, steal or borrow to get tickets. Listen below for a reminder of why.
