Impose Magazine features the new Video for Tera Melos’ - Nick Reinhart’s Frozen Zoo Remix . A big thanks to Sean Stout and Terror Eyes TV for making it! And that Nick Reinhart doesn’t just remix he also gives great PRANK CALL and the band picks some real sweet tunes for their “What Their Listening to List“  

While Sacramento’s Tera Melos seems hesitant to succumb to the label of pop—quickly offsetting hooks with punk and jazz notes before they can reach fruition—their efforts are in vein. Tracks like “Frozen Zoo” are as catchy as they are melodically complex, combining vocals that echo MGMT with an edgier start-stop guitar that sets the trio apart from the indie herd. The remix comes courtesy of Nick Reinhart, guitarist, programmer and vocalist for the group and apparent dance floor aficionado, as his reworking adds some lovably 80s effects to smooth out the harder breakdowns of the original. Patagonia Rats is out on Sargent House, and don’t miss the fantastic video wholly in keeping with Tera’s inventive approach.

Tera Melos - Frozen Zoo (Nick Reinhart Remix)

“Frozen Zoo,” the new video from experimental pop band Tera Melos, explores the bizarro intersection of surrealism and drugs.

Premiering Tuesday on Wired.com, the clip is a worthy follow-up to the Northern California trio’s previous video, “The Skin Surf,” which probed the limits of dork horror. Both weirdly addictive tunes can be found on the band’s latest release, Patagonian Rats, out Tuesday from Sargent House.

Like the eerie video for “The Skin Surf,” “Frozen Zoo” (embedded above) was directed by Tera Melos pal Behn Fannin, who seems to have been inspired equally by David Cronenberg and David Lynch.

Maybe it’s the featureless humanoids romping around banal alleys and pastoral hills, while suspicious eyes in the sky keep watch. Or perhaps it’s the superimposed shots of pills, meat and other de-contextualized imagery flashing across the beings’ blank bodies. Either way, “Frozen Zoo” is a creepy but fun reel, as well as another oddly catchy tune from Tera Melos‘ most accessible full-length yet.

In the past we have tried to emphasize the atypical pieces of our music, but on this track the emphasis is pushed towards the simplicity found in nearly all elements of the song: Drums, guitars, melodies, structure etc. The trick is to then tweak those elements in an unusual way that can take the listener out of their comfort zone while still maintaining a classic ‘pop’ feel.” — Guitarist/vocalist Nick Reinhart

“now that you’ve listened to patagonian rats a hundred times, you may have noticed that it’s densely layered with goodie bits. there’s lots of skronky blip sounds, electro snare rolls and melodies hidden all over the place. we thought it’d be fun to recreate as much of the record as we could live. so our friend evan will be touring with us, helping to provide the pieces that make up PR. tera melos as a four piece!? (GASP). we met evan on the very first night of our very first tour ever- some show in san jose where a girl punker, wearing pirate stockings, got shanked in the belly. if you squint your eyes evan could almost be related to jeff. check out evan’s band, Worker Bee. 
the songs sound awesome as a 4 piece. we’re real excited for everyone to hear them. we’ll also be opening the TM vault and playing a few songs that have never been played live. rad.

One is by Raleigh Moncrief and the other is by Tera Melos’ own Nick Reinhart. It will also include the studio version of the song.
